Kieler Woche is approaching and to help your planning our class sponsor ACO has put together a great accomodation offer.
Our class sponsor ACO has put together a great accomodation offer.
There is free accommodation available for all sailors on a first come/first serve basis. There is a total of 10 rooms available (some of which are double). Please get in contact with Iver Ahlmann for booking (firstname.lastname@example.org). This accommodation is part of the ACO campus in Büdelsdorf and is 30miles/35min away from the Kiel harbour. This accommodation is usually used for visitors of the ACO campus. During Kieler Woche there are thousands of sailors in Kiel so local accomodation can be scarce.
In 2013, 2014 and 2016 this accommodation was used by up to 25 Skiff sailors and the corresponding event reports can be found here:
The accommodation is in the "Direktorenhaus" which can be found here (building nr. 9):
But of course there are plenty of options for accommodation local to Kiel including Hotels, Apartments and camping, some of these can be found in the NOR here:
Of course there are other things to consider regarding Kieler Woche, some of these are detailed below:
Unlike in previous years, we will this time sail in the first half of Kieler Woche, starting Saturday the 18th (13:00hrs) and finishing Tuesday the 21st of June (14:00hrs).
Kieler Woche 2016
Expected fleet size
The traditionally accurate annual survey 2016 predicts a 28 boat entry with a very international range of sailors. Fleets in the previous years have been 25, 18, 36, 21 boats (2011, 2013, 2014, 2016)
Boat Transport Options
For those coming from the UK the following is worthy a comparison: Calais-Kiel is 840km, Calais-Carnac is 670km, Carnac-Kiel 1470km
Proximity to Carnac Worlds
Carnac finishes on Saturday the 11th of June, one week before Kieler Woche starts. To combine the worlds with this event, in the meantime you can either fly home or spend an extended holiday in France. For the week it would be no problem to leave your boat and trailer at the ACO premises in Büdelsdorf, you then fly in and out of Hamburg. Its probably worth sharing travel options with others here:
You can of course get someone to take your boat to Kiel and fly over. You would want to fly into Hamburg. This airport is served by standard and low-cost carriers. A suitable easyjet return flight from Luton or Gatwick currently comes in at below 100GBP.
is now open, 2 boats registered so far, including Yaroslav coming all the way from Russia. You can secure the 110Euro entry (instead of 165Euro) now and pay when your arrive (just leave out the payment step).
Launching and course area
The venue is equipment friendly with launching on a wide beach and deep waters in the course area.
As it stands, we will have a course area only about 5min sail from the beach. If we are lucky we will even get a chance again to sail a day on the TV course which provides Live TV coverage.
Number of races
The target number of races for the four days will be 11. The NOR currently states an erroneous number of races.
Hope to see many of you there.
