ACO 7th MUSTO Skiff Worlds Yacht Club de Carnac (Quiberon Bay, FRA)

Pre-worlds Coaching by Russ Clark

We are please to advise we have booked highly experienced coach Russ Clark (GBR) to provide coaching during the pre-worlds.

This coaching will be targeted to the sailors who are first timers at a world championships and those who typically finish towards the back of the fleet.

If you wish to participate in the coaching programme you need to:

1) Enter the event
2) Book your slot via the forum ... note you must enter first.

Spaces will be limited to 10 and allocated on a first-come-first-served basis but we will select based on a the best fit between pupil and training objectives if the 10 slots become over subscribed.

There is no charge to participate in the training as this is covered by event sponsor ACO.

The objective is the help those sailors develop the skills and understanding to help them cope better in a big fleet environment that they don't experience very often.

The fleets that we get at a world championships can be large and a little daunting to those who perhaps get few chances to practice in big fleets so Russ will be taking a group of sailors through a series of pre and post race sessions to help develop skills.

This coaching will run the Saturday and Sunday of the pre-worlds; coaching will be shore based before and after sailing and during the racing Russ will be providing on-the-water coaching during the racing.

As it is the pre-worlds coaching will be provided during the races the SIs will be amended accordingly (rule 41 will not apply); this of course will not apply during the worlds.

The training will cover:

On the shore:
- Consistent boat set up
- Personal preparation
- Regatta management, avoiding disasters!
- Sailing instructions and flags
- Key timings

On the water (sessions to be defined as racing allows)
- Pre race preparation
- Surviving big start lines
- Boat handling with confidence
- Mark rounding
- Lay lines
