Sailing Club
Stone Sailing Club is situated on a north
facing headland on the estuary of the river Blackwater
in Essex. The club is approximately 50 minutes from
the M25 via either the A13 from the south or A12 from
the north.
The venue has provided a popular venue for many dinghy
class championships over the years and this season will
host our nationals in May and the International Moth
nationals in June.
The club has previously held various dinghy championships
from Cadets to Phantoms with numbers in excess of 80
competitors, so it is well capable of big fleet management.
Added to this Neil Fulcher, our event PRO, is a keen
dinghy sailor having competed in 505, Phantoms and asymmetric
classes.
There is plenty of camping in the field adjacent to
the dinghy park and the club is currently undergoing
a re-fit of it's facilities, which will be ready before
the season gets under way.
The dinghy park is a sandy and shingle beach similar
to Stokes Bay, with good access at all states of tide.
The racing area is to the east of the club in an area
called Steeple Bay, where the river is wide enough to
hold windward / leeward racing from any wind direction,
although the prevailing wind direction is westerly which
is straight down the river.
For those not familiar with the tactics of the area,
it it recommended that they take a close look at the
clubs local chart.
