Broo Premium Lager
Musto Performance Skiff 2011 World Championship Update

Well it’s only a couple of weeks
to go before the Broo Worlds in Australia. The sun is
shining and the water is gradually warming up. So we
thought it was a good time to let you know what you’re
in for if you’re coming, or what you’re missing out
on if you’re staying at home in the cold and snow. And
by the way, we’re all there for a sailing regatta, so
we are strictly forbidden to discuss cricket, rugby,
football or anything else that Australia is currently
crap at.
The Worlds will kick off on Friday 7th January with
a casual practice day. Competitors can be registered
and boats measured during the day, followed by a general
briefing in the evening. After this we will all get
together for an “Äussie BBQ” with plenty of the
sponsors product to reacquaint old friendships and start
up a few new ones.
The weekend of 8th and 9th January are scheduled for
practice races to familiarise everyone with the local
conditions and dust off the cobwebs. We’ll wind up the
weekend with Welcome Night on Sunday which will incorporate
a presentation of the Pre-Worlds results and prizes.
You can all have a
sleep in on Monday morning. Any competitors who have
not yet registered and measured can get this finalised
during the day, and a formal briefing and information
session will be held in the evening.
The serious racing begins on Tuesday and will generally
be every day except Friday, depending on the weather.
It is intended to run up to 3 races each day, if the
conditions allow for an uninterrupted schedule the last
couple of days can slow down a bit. If the weather forecast
indicates a likely bad day somewhere in the schedule
the Race Officer may elect to move the scheduled lay
day forwards or back.
But assuming that it all goes to plan, we have a Seafood
and Band night planned for Thursday and an optional
bus trip to the Yarra Valley on Friday to include some
wineries and visit Healesville Wildlife Sanctuary (and
get right away from any boats) Bookings for this can
be made at the registration desk, numbers will be limited
so please get in early.
Wrapping up the whole show will be our Presentation
Night on Sunday 16th January.
The club’s kitchen will be open for bistro meals every
night that we don’t have a function scheduled. Also
the kitchen will be open every morning from 8.30am to
provide a choice of breakfasts to get ready for a hard
day on the water, and will be ready to fill orders for
some carbo-loading options when we come back to the
beach. In fact if you didn’t want to move from the yacht
club for the whole regatta we’ve got you covered.
Each competitor will be issued with a wristband as part
of their entry fee, to be worn at all times and includes
entry to the Aussie BBQ, Welcome Night and Presentation
Night, as well as ample supplies of Broo Premium Lager
throughout the week. Extra full regatta tickets can
be purchased for wives, girlfriends and others for A$100,
or for individual events. Kids tickets will be for individual
events only. Please let us know as early as possible
if you wish to purchase a guest regatta ticket, so we
can order in that extra case of champagne or more Broo!
Charters
If that menu has got you salivating but you didn’t pack
your boat in one of containers, we still have an option
for a lucky few. There are a very limited number of
boats still available for charter for the Worlds, so
all you would have to do is pay your money and jump
on a plane. A couple of new boats are available for
A$1,200 plus insurance, preferably using your own sails.
Otherwise there are a couple of secondhanders available
for A$800 plus insurance and use of sails negotiable.
That’s an opportunity not to be missed by anyone who
has been procrastinating for way too long.
