Melbourne Worlds Entries
By now you have probably booked your spot
in the containers, checked out the cheapest flights
and surfed around the various accommodation options,
but it looks like a lot of you have forgotten to enter
for the Worlds. So far only 11 boats have coughed up.
We know we have 26 people booked containers so it's
time for some entries.
In 2 weeks (after 24th September) the
first stage of late fees will be applied, and the on-line
entry system doesn’t allow for any discretion. Wouldn’t
you rather spend the extra $50 (£29) on beer in
January. Please help the event organisers with the logistics
planning by making a commitment earlier rather than
later.
I’m sure you don’t need the link by now,
but it’s always easier to just click

There isn’t much other news to offer
from this side of the world at the moment, we’ve mostly
been hibernating over winter, but it’s finally warming
up. Victoria has been in a drought for the last 10 years,
but we now have floods everywhere. This follows last
summer’s bushfires, and an imminent massive plague of
locusts – there’s a biblical reference there somewhere.
Come on down and have a look for yourselves.

FYI and in case of doubt, the online entry
system may appear to accept an ‘expression of interest’
without payment, however the terms and conditions make
it clear that no entry will be recorded until payment
has been made and cleared. If you look at the NOR there
are stepped payment increments to reflect late payments
– these will be loaded into the online system as the
dates are reached. Anyone who merely ‘expresses interest’
will be subject to the higher payments if the actual
payment date is delayed.

2011 Worlds shipping and flight
information
The International committee has been working
on container shipping and flight options fro the 2011
World championships at Black Rock Melbourne.
Things you should do now!
If you are going (or thinking about going)
to the 2011 World Championships add your name and details
to a master list of participants from Europe or North
America who are intending to take part in Black Rock,
please drop Paul a line at paulsmanning01@gmail.com
who is maintaining a database, and is liaising with
the container shipping companies and flight options.
This will give us a much better idea of
numbers for booking flights and containers at the best
possible rates.
Flight information
2010 World championship flights
from the UK to Melbourne
Flight Centre are a UK based high street
shop and internet booking agency specialising in flights
to Australia.
For those who wish to contact someone
who is alive rather than an online booking point, please
call Rachel Hill, Flight Centre’s senior international
travel manager specialising in Australia to book your
flights on 01245 494498, and let her know that you are
part of the class enquiry from Paul (we’ll get a booking
reference asap), or you can book online through www.flightcentre.co.uk/flights.
Rachel is happy to match any online quote
for us, and as an indication I’ve recently found flights
with Malaysian Airways for £944.97 return all
taxes paid.
Please note that flights for this period
can get taken up pretty quickly, with the result that
the prices go up, so it’s a good idea to book sooner
than later!

There will be more details on flights and container
bookings soon, so please keep an eye on this section.
If you work in the industry or have
any contacts who could help with this please drop Paul
a line at paulsmanning01@gmail.com
Update Note 27th May 2010
: the Aussie dollar has been
slipping in value over the last few days, down from
$1.64 to $1.75 = about 6%. Also
Air Asia are having a big sale for tickets covering
our time period - I had a quick look and London – Melbourne
seems to be £921 – that is a good price. These
can be booked on-line.

For mainland Europe ...
The planning for the worlds is marching
on steadily. Ten boats have already confirmed interest
for the Muiden (Netherlands)-Melbourne container. As
a further incentive, Huud Ouwehand is organising the
OZ Travel Regatta (http://www.mustoskiff.nl)
which will be held in Muiden immediately prior to loading
the container. This way, the journey to Muiden becomes
more purposeful and there is opportunity for some last
minute practice!
