The 2011 Musto Skiff National Championships
were hosted by Mounts Bay Sailing Club and were blessed
with a good range of conditions which allowed the full
race programme to be completed.
The class has already enjoyed a very successful
World Championships in Melbourne at the start of the
year and is looking forward to the European Championships
being held in September; as a result of this the entries
were down from 74 last year to 41 this year as sailors
struggled to juggle their family and work commitments.
Racing was extremely tight through the
fleet but it would soon become clear that this was a
two horse race between James MacIntosh and Bruce Keen.
That said there were 6different race winners and 3rd
to 10th were separated by just 17 points.
The championships went down to the final
race with James taking a 2 point advantage into the
final race which he won and with it the championships.

A big thank you to all the volunteer members
of MBSC who gave up their free time to run the championships
for the class. Also a huge thank you to the class sponsors;
Musto, Ovington Boats, Harken and Hyde.
The focus now moves to the next 2011 event
which is the European Championships being held in Portorož
(Slovenia) with pre-entries approaching 50 already.
Next years UK nationals will be a 3 day
event held at Stone Sailing Club as a warm up to the
main event for 2012 which will be the World Championships
which is being held for the first time in the UK at
Weymouth and Portland Sailing Academy. This will be
the last championships they host prior to the Olympic
Games and will give sailors from around the world the
chance to experience the Olympic venue at a peak state
of ready ness; will this be the first Musto Skiff Championships
to exceed 100 boats ...?
