Prestwick Scottish Skiff
Event 7th and 8th May 2011
The weekend of 7/8 May saw 10 Musto Skiffs
amongst a total of 15 skiffs of many types, taking part
in the first Scottish Skiff event of 2011 at Prestwick.
Musto’s came from Aberdeen in the North to Derwent Reservoir
in the South.

The initial very light offshore wind did
not look very promising, however after about a 45 minute
postponement the wind increased and racing started.
The first race was sailed in marginal
conditions, with the offshore breeze giving tricky holes
which caused several windward capsizes. Alastair Conn
won this race.
The wind settled for the second race which was again
won by Alastair Conn.
Race 3 was sailed in a squall which had come through
with the wind increasing to 15 to 20 knots and the sea
building, giving some exciting sailing conditions.
The wind then subsided for the last race of the day,
with the skiff sailors returning to shore at six o’clock,
for a well deserved curry in the club house.
Alastair Conn was the overnight leader
with Ian Renilson in second place. Sunday morning again
looked as if it was going to be a light wind affair,
but on the sail out to the start the wind increased
and racing was held in 15 to 20 knots of Southerly wind.
The conditions suited Ian Renilson whose
four wins helped him finish the eight race series ahead
of Alastair, with John Evans third.
