Royal Corinthian
Yacht Club Icicle Race - Saturday 10th December
Due
to popular demand from the fleet in the UK, and from
the club, we are pleased to announce that the Icicle
Race will be run on Saturday 10th December at the Royal
Corinthian Yacht Club. For those who took part last
time, I’m sure you’ll remember what fun we had! (I can’t
actually remember going home)
For those who did not, here goes…
Racing is held immediately in front of
the yacht club, with PRO Edwin Buckley, who will also
be the 2012 Worlds PRO, on the first weekend after the
yachts have all be taken out. The river is about as
wide a Rutland from the club to the far bank, so racing
is made deliberately close and short. Last time the
club was completely full (100’s) and the sea wall either
side was packed too!
There will be 4 races of usual race target
time and each race will have a charity associated with
it. This means that the club can raise funds by the
members and guests giving up their hard earned money
in an attempt to guess who the winner will be.
Now there is a joker to the whole thing,
and I really mean a joker; in one of the races every
entry MUST race with a club Otter (junior member) on
board. You can select which race you are going to do
this in, but you get double points to your overall position.
It might all be a bit early to announce
this, but it takes quite a bit of organising…if you’d
like to take part, please would you register your intent
to sail by dropping Paul a line to paul@mustoskiff.com
so he can get an idea of the number of Otters needed.
