Gocycle® UK Nationals : Category
& Buddy Prizes
We are expecting a good turnout for this
years nationals and just wanted to make sure that everyone
knows that unlike many classes at the MPS Nationals
there is somthing for everyone to race for. There are
age categories, Silver & Bronze Fleets & the
buddy system. As usual with the Musto Skiff Nationals
the best prizes will not go to the top sailors, they
get the glory the rest are racing for the goodies ...
Youth (Under 21 on 31/12/2010)
Master (Over 45 on 1/1/2010)
Grand Master (Over 50 on 1/1/2010)
Gold Fleet (Top third on at the end of
the 1st day) - No extra prizes, overall only
Silver Fleet (Top third on at the end of the 1st day)
- The 2nd best prize list ...
Bronze Fleet (Top third on at the end of the 1st day)
- The best prizes from the sponsors
Buddy’s at the UK Nationals
For a number of previous regattas the
class has run a buddy system, which has been very successful
and lots of fun!
How it works –
At the end of the first days racing the
fleet’s results will be split in half, and the leader
on day 1 will be paired for the rest of the regatta
with the sailor positioned half way down the results
(ie 41st position in a 80 boat fleet and so on ...).
The sailor in 40th position will therefore be paired
with the sailor positioned in 80th place.
The objective –
There are really two main features, explained
below
Helping new and less competitive
sailors improve their skills
The main aim of the buddy system is for the newer and
less experienced sailors to improve their skills by
having the front of the fleet sailors mentor them through
the regatta. It’s also a great way for sailors new to
the class to get to know the fleet and meet new friends.
Winning prizes
We are all a friendly but competitive
bunch, so there has to be something worth winning! The
class puts up a nice prize for the team who manages
to improve their buddy’s result the most throughout
the regatta. Note; it's only the lower buddies improvement
that counts so if the upper buddy blows their championship
to help their lower buddy then that is just fine :-)
SPONSOR
ANNOUNCEMENT
High-performance commuting comes
to the Musto Performance Skiff, with the generous sponsorship
of the UK National Championships by Karbon Kinetics
Ltd. (KKL), producer of the award-winning electric two-wheeler
Gocycle®.
The UK MPSCA are pleased to announce
that KKL and Gocycle will be supporting the Whitstable
Open Meeting and will be title sponsors of UK Musto
Skiff National Championships, to be held in Hayling
Island in July.
Paul Manning, international class secretary, said, “The
simple, stylish, yet functional design of the Gocycle
fits perfectly with the design ethos of the Musto Performance
Skiff. We are very grateful for KKL’s generous support
and look forward to working with them over the season.”
Richard Thorpe, KKL founder and designer of the Gocycle,
commented, “We are excited to support the Musto Performance
Skiff (MPS) class in 2010 and especially pleased to
sponsor the UK National Championships on the class’s
tenth birthday. The Musto Skiff is one of the fastest,
most lightweight and highest performance sailboats on
the water. Gocycle is the lightest production electric
two-wheeler in the world and probably the fastest way
to get from point A to B in a city,”
Thorpe continued, “Gocycle’s on-demand electric power
makes commuting to work fun and fast. The space-efficient
design also allows it to be packed down for easy storage.”
Dan Parsons, KKL’s technical representative and Musto
Performance Skiff sailor, commented, “Gocycle and the
MPS share the same passion for performance and appreciation
for lightweight materials. With Gocycle, the fun and
performance of a sailing weekend can continue on a Monday
morning. In the city, nothing beats a Gocycle for a
fast and fun commute.”
To see a Gocycle, come to the Ovington stand (C92) at
the RYA Volvo Dinghy Show where it will be on display
all weekend.
