The RYA Volvo
Dinghy Show
The fabulous looking 10th anniversary
skiff on the stand created a great deal of interest
from existing class members visiting the show and potential
new members alike. This was enhanced by a clothing display
of the new UK Olympic team kit from Musto, and the UK
national sponsors Gocycle bike.
I think it was fair to say that Dan Parson’s,
Gocycle’s salesman and skiff sailor, was pretty well
mobbed the whole weekend. Amazingly, they have tuned
one up and can get 33mph out of it, and it looks cool…attracting
a major UK car dealer network to take a look for their
show rooms. Dan mentioned that he’s hoping to get a
few to the UK nationals for us to try out, and I have
visions of last year’s national’s go-cart racing day
starting again (none of us being competitive of course!)
One of the most well attended seminars
of the show on both Saturday and Sunday was Richard
Stenhouse and Rick Perkins chat on the main stage about
skiff sailing techniques. John Harris-Butler who
organises the entire weekend of seminars considered
it to be one of the best he’d seen. I popped over on
Sunday, and I don’t think there were many seats left…
Finally, these shows take quite
a bit of effort and commitment to set up, man and break
down, and I’d like to thank all those involved who give
up their time to support the class in the UK. For the
record the stand was run by Chris Henderson, Rick Perkins,
Tim Chapman, Richard Stenhouse, Dan Parsons, Jon Simpson
and myself. (God help me if I’ve forgotten someone!)
and finally thanks to Ovington Boats for allowing us
to use such a great location!
