at Queen Mary Sailing Club

skiffs were greeted by warm weather and sunshine but
not much wind for the first day of sailing at Queen
Mary. Conditions were tricky with the patchy breeze
meaning that consistency was hard to come by and positioning
yourself correctly for the puffs way key.
In Race 1 Leigh Albrecht demonstrated
good boatspeed whilst going the right way to take line
honours, closely followed by fast improving skiff newcomer
Jamie Hilton Albrecht made the best of the conditions
again in race 2 to take another bullet.
In race 3 Bruce Keen sailed Dave Poston
off beyond the final downwind layline to steal first
place, with Rob Chaplin in third.
Sunday dawned with perfect skiff racing
conditions of 12-15 knots of breeze with more in the
gusts.
Poston came through leading pack of Albrecht,
Keen and Dan Ward to win race 4. Race 5 saw Keen take
an early lead which he held to the finish.
In race 6 the breeze built to a solid
15 knots and Keen looked well set for another bullet
until he capsized, leaving Albrecht and Poston to fight
for the lead. Tacking to try and get past Albrecht,
Poston took a trip off the side of the boat taking his
tiller with him, forcing him to retire. Keen then overhauled
Albrecht to win with Ward in third.
Poston took line honours ahead of Keen
and Albrecht in the final race. This allowed Keen to
win the event overall, 1 point ahead of Albrecht in
second and Poston in third.
