With just about the perfect conditions
to play with at QM the training was a great success
with some serious improvements in boat handling and
general technique.
The theme of the training was “slow down and prepare
before you do anything”, the aim being to get your brain
into gear before you do any manoeuvre.
Tacking technique was changed primarily
by making sure that the mainsheet wasn’t eased too far,
it gives you speed into the tack and prevents you from
stalling the foils and therefore stalling in the tack.
See the video of Griff Tanner to see what a difference
it makes!
Gybing
technique was primarily changed by making sure that
people pulled all of the kite sheets tight and made
sure that when the gybe is initiated the kite pulls
through cleanly therefore keeping the speed on and decreasing
the pressure in the rig when the gybe is complete, see
Big Dave Poston’s gybe.
Take a look at Jerry Wales’ tack sequence
in the photos and video for perfect technique and some
other great clips of crashes and excellent boat handling.
