Pre-Championship Visit to FVM
March 2007
Paul Manning and Paul Clarke visited the
host club for the 2007 World Championships over the
weekend of 9th to 11th March. During the visit, the
details of the event management were discussed with
the club and there was also an opportunity to look around
the new facilities that the club has built since the
Gold Cup was held there back in 2004.
FVM what had changed over the last 3
years?
The change is dramatic, the marina to the northern end
of the facility has been increased in size and the club
perimeter has been smartened up. The biggest change
is seen on entering the club site through the main entrance
gate.
The temporary marquees have gone, replaced
by a fantastic new clubhouse which is open for use and
is nearing completion inside. There is also underground
parking space for over 100 cars and the changing facilities
look fantastic! The remaining areas inside the clubhouse
that are still to be completed are the restaurant area
at the northern end of the building and what will be
a gymnasium facility at the southern end of the building.
The restaurant area will be open, if not 100% completed,
during the week of the MPS World Championship.
The launching area, that MPS sailors who
have visited FVM before will be familiar with, is wide
enough for 3 boats to launch / recover at the same time
and there are plans to create a second launching area
to the south of the clubhouse, although it is unlikely
that this will be complete by the time of our visit
in June.
Otherwise it is the same great venue
on Lake Garda!
Entry Fee 150 thats a bit more than
last time we visited FVM, what do we get for our money?
Well, for starters you will be getting
12 races over 4 days, with all of the very professional
race management and support from FVM.
As we are now an ISAF recognised class we are required
to have an international jury present at the event,
FVM are arranging for this to be in place which is an
overhead that we would not have had for our Gold Cup
events in the past.
Pasta Party after racing on 3 out of 4 days (the Gala
Dinner, sponsored by Selden will be held on the Friday).
Full use of the FVM club facilities over 8 days, including
time before the event for training and practice.
We hope that the visit to the club has ensured the arrangements
for the World Championships are in place and the event
will run smoothly. I am sure that it will be a great
event and with support from our sponsors there will
be lots of prizes available for everyone to compete
for.
