You can of course just choose to use your
Velocitek unit on the water for speed and VMG readouts
but there is a whole lot more you can do after the sailing
with the software available.
This step by step guide should help you
on your way ...
Note: these instructions are based on
the S10 read the manual http://www.sailgps.com/files/docs/S10.pdf
1) DONT connect the unit to the PC until
you have installed the Velocitek control center.
2) Download the Velociteck control center
.http://www.sailgps.com/files/VelocitekControlCenter.zip
3) Install the contol center (follow the
instrunctions in the manual if needed)
4) Open the S10 and connect the USB cable
(Make sure there are batteries installed)
5) Start up the Velocitek Control Center
6) Click download
7) The save to your hard disk (use a sensible
file name that perhaps included the date)
8) Then click export to save the data
as gpx (for GPSar) and kml (for Google Earth).
9) Now download Google Earth http://earth.google.com/
10) Install the above
11) Then start-up Google Earth and click
file open then find the track xxxx.kml and open it.
You should now see your track on the background (photo)
of your sailing
12) Now un-tick the box on the left that
turns off your track
13 Now push the "Print Screen"
key on your keyboard
14) Open up a picture editing package
such as Photoshop or Microsoft Pain
15) Now do edit paste then crop and save
the "map" as a jpeg
16) Download and install Java RUNTIME.
Visit this link http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp
do the manual download (2nd one down) and install Java
17) Download GPS action replay (I am using
version 3.3.2 and this works well with the VCC output,
I have not tested later versions). http://gpsactionreplay.free.fr/index.php?menu=1&choice=1
Follow the instructions on the page.
18) Once you have done the above you can
now start GPSar (double click on the file gpsar.jar)
19) Then open the file you exported from
the Velocitek Contol Center. xxx.gpx
20) Then load in the map by clicking file,
create new map and then select the jpeg that you created
in step 15
21) Now you have to resize and align the
jpeg to your track - this is a bit tricky. Tips here
http://gpsactionreplay.free.fr/index.php?menu=1&choice=2
22) Once you have done this save the map.
Click file, save maps
23) Now you can run your replay.
Tips:
- Click the far right of the button that
says show graphs
- For fast boats x31 speed is about right
- Click left & right mouse on the speed v time graph
to zoom in & out
- Click Options, Path view settings to change the appearance
of the track.
