Sunderland Open
18 – 19 Aug.
The Sunderland MPS open took place over the 18th &
19th August. The feleet was welcomed by a good south
easterly breeze, almost perfect conditions.
The first day saw 2 races being sailed
at sea just north of Sunderland harbour. Ian Trotter
took the early lead winning both races, with John Evans
2nd and Richard Purdy 3rd.
Sunday brought with it poor conditions.
Low visibility and a building northerly breeze forced
the race officer to run racing inside Sunderland Harbour.
With a falling tide and gusty conditions many competitors
decided against racing. Only 1 Musto made it to the
starting area, but after many capsizes called it a day.
