The appauling weather forecast did not deter 12 MPS
sailors and a lone 600 sailor from attending South Shields
sailing club for early season training.
The coaches decided after the first 30 knott gust blasted
through it would be adviseable to keep the training
shore based. So plan B was implemented.
Instead of everyone rigging boats and checking rig settings.
We pulled the main up on a rigged boat and went through
all the settings for different conditions. Also showing
the less experienced sailors where they should be standing
to get the right trim and balance in the boat. This was
then followed buy the old favourite of land based exercises.
After dinner we watched a dvd on how to tack and gybe
kindly sent down from Ian Renilson. We finished off with
a Q&A session.
Many thanks to all who attended to make it an enjoyable
day and hopefully learn something, especially the bit
about slowing Sten down.
As discussed we will try and hold a video session at
Shields when we get a good fore cast.
Thanks to all at South Shields sailing club for the
hospitality.
