Skiff Inland Championships 2006
Despite an interesting weather forcast
twenty eight Musto Skiff’s arrived for the 2006 inlands.
A sunny day greeted the fleet on Saturday with twenty
knots of breeze and gusts of a bit more. The race course
was shared with the 49er and b14’s with the Musto sailing
the outer course. The first race was won by Richard
Stenhouse followed by David Poston, Ian Trotter and
Ant Chapman proving that light weights can still do
well in windy weather. Brian Green Smith came in 5th
after the confusion as to which mark the fleet should
be rounding .
With the second race under way and the
familiar pursuit of Richard, Ian and Dave with Phil
Robinsion putting in an excellent performance to take
4th place and Ant Chapman taking 5th. During the second
race Tim Chapman suffered a bad blow to his head which
required several stitches to his eye ending his regatta
(get well soon Tim).
In the third race Richard took the win
from Brian Greensmith, Dave again in third Ian in 4th
and Dan Vincent in 5th place.
Race four had a reduced number of boats
because of the conditions taking there toll on the sailors
and the call of the bar. Again Richard took the honours
of 1st place and with Dave capsizing on the last lap
it allowed Gareth Davies to take 2nd place with Kit
Stenhouse 3rd , Dave recovering for 4th and Ian in 5th.
Ian Judd also put in a brave performance finishing three
of the four races, good to have you back in the fleet
Ian .
Day 2
The wind had dropped over night to a
nice twelve knots perfect for the Musto fleet. Richard
carried on as he left of the day before winning race
five with Gareth Davies narrowly beating Mark Addision
on the line to take 2nd, Mark taking 3rd Ian trotter
4th and Ant chapman 5th.
Race six got under way with Gareth allowing
Trotter and Richard in on the mark something that you
don’t really want to do. Richard took the lead on the
first down wind leg where he stayed until the finish.
Trotter and Davies changed places a few times but Trotter
came through to take 2nd Davies third, Peter Greenholgh
put in his best performances to take 4th and Kit in
5th.
Race seven took place in a decreasing
breeze with Kit taking the lead on the first mark followed
by Richard ,Ian and Gareth. These positions were held
until the final lap Ian Trotter taking a swim at the
down wind mark which then involved a few interesting
words being used to describe his boat or was he talking
to me!! Richard finally passed Kit down wind after leading
for most of the race Trotter recovered to pip Kit at
the line for 2nd ,Kit 3rd Gareth 4th and Mark Addision
in fifth . Racing was\close through out the fleet as
always with Bill Smith , Tom Wright and Grahame Smith
having a battle of their own lower down the fleet.
I think this was an excellent end to a fantastic season;
many new faces took their first steps into the fleet
with ex-RS700 National Champion Peter Greenholgh managing
a credible 7th overall.
