| Herbstpreis I in
Brunnen (Urnersee)
A
record of 21 boats were registered Saturday morning
in Brunnen by far the biggest class. Unfortunately the
wind was not up to standard (Urnersee is well known
for its consistent thermical wind conditions – but good
weather is condition).
Anyway a first race was started after
a wild ride down to the starting line in a Beaufort
6 gust which gave way to a mild 5 – 10 knots first beat.
Urs Scherrer chooses the right side of the lake and
was leading the pack by about 100 m at the first mark.
After two rounds the wind and a fierce battle between
Rolf Schindler and Urs unfortunately the wind disappeared
and the race committee cancelled the race.
Sunday
saw even less wind and a first start was announced in
shifty force one wind. Roger Oswald and Urs Scherrer
choose the right side and lead in the first half of
the race. Again the wind fell asleep and the race had
to be cancelled once more. In the afternoon an unusual
easterly wind (Beaufort 2 – 3) led the committee to
start a race in the western part of the lake (Gersauerbecken).
Only 10 boats did believe that this wind would stay
during the whole race and in the very shifty conditions
many changes of places took place. Roger Oswald shifted
side and improved from an unusual almost last place
to win the event just in front of Dominique Wälchli
who surprised with an exceptional good speed. Third
place went to Michael (Murphy) Huebner from Germany.
A special thanks goes to Steffen Scholz who came all
the way down from Dresden.
