PRESS RELEASE - For
release on May 26th, 2005
The former management team at
Devoti Sailing UK Ltd. have conducted a management buy-out
of the Musto Performance Skiff business and are now
trading as Ovington Boats Ltd.
“The management team of Ovington Boats is
100% of the same team as Devoti Sailing UK Ltd; it’s
the same people working on the Musto Performance Skiff
project; but with more time and focus to further develop
the class.” said Tim Tavinor MD of Ovington Boats and
former MD of Devoti Sailing UK Ltd.
Devoti Sailing are rationalising the regional
offices and with a business focus on continental Europe
Devoti Sailing chairman Luca Devoti has made a strategic
decision to focus the companies resources where the
majority customer base are located. This has lead to
the decision to close the UK office in Burnham-on-Crouch
from the 1st July 2005.
The UK office have been responsible for
the world wide development of the Musto Performance
Skiff class to date and it made a lot of business sense
for that to remain based in the UK as 50% of the sales
to date have been to UK customers. To accommodate that
the Devoti Sailing UK Ltd management team of Tim Tavinor,
Paul Manning and Kay Tavinor have conducted a buy-out
of the Musto Performance Skiff part of the Devoti Sailing
UK Ltd. business and will be trading from today as Ovington Boats Ltd.
Paul Manning, Operations Manager, at Ovington Boats said “It’s people that make a business and sailors
who make a class; I have enjoyed greatly working with
the Musto Performance Skiff sailors and look forward
to maintaining that relationship and having more time
to dedicate to further promoting the business under
the banner of Ovington Boats”
The Musto Performance Skiff project started
in 1999 and in that time the class has grown and grown,
with 2005 already being a record year for sales after
just 6 months. With the new company structure the team
at Ovington Boats will have more time to dedicate to the
development of the class.
Nigel Musto, MD of Musto Performance Clothing
said “The class has grown beyond my expectations over
the last couple of years and it’s great to see management
continuity and greater focus to continue that progress.
The Musto Performance Skiff is a great ambassador for
the Musto brand and I will look forward to seeing it
grow further under the Ovington Boats management team.
Many people have shown interest in the Musto Performance
Skiff being submitted for Olympic consideration; when
Devoti Sailing ‘owned’ the class that would have always
caused a conflict of interest with the Finn; Ovington Boats don’t have any such constraints so I look forward
to an even brighter future for the class”.
Ovington Boats first steps will be to educate
all the current and prospective owners that it is business
as usual. There will be the same people doing the same
things but there will now be more time and focus on
the development of the class world wide.
Paul Clarke, Chairman of the MPS Class
Association said; “The class is very happy about the
Ovington Boats management buy-out; we can expect to continue
to receive the same great customer service from Paul
and the team and the class will also benefit from the
increased focus that the team will be able to provide
under the Ovington Boats banner”
Ovington Boats will continue to be based
in Burnham-on-Crouch, Essex; and will be available on
a new telephone number: 07719 594949.
In summary Tim Tavinor said “We have thoroughly
enjoyed working with Luca Devoti but understand the
reasons for needing to close the UK office; this presented
the former management team with a great opportunity
to purchase and develop further the Musto Performance
Skiff business. With more time and resources to apply
to the project and no possible future conflicts of interest
over Olympic selection the future for the class has
never been better. Ovington Boats has the full support
of our key partners in the project; Ovington Boats,
Hyde, Selden, Harken and Musto so the conditions for
future business look great”
