Sunderland Open:
20 - 21st August 2005
A fleet of 12 boats arrived at Sunderland
to sun sand and blue skies. But a 28 knot northerly
and a big sea running. So racing had to be abandoned
for the day allowing the usual suspects to get to the
bar and over do it (nothing new there)
Sunday dawned sunny with light wind. Steve lowe from
South Sheilds lead the first race for a lap but slowly
dropped back allowing Martin Boatman in his newly sponsored
Crewsaver Boat take the win. Race two saw boatman first
to the windward mark closely followed by Ian turnbull
(Ronstan) on the starboard lay line and cow boy trotter
(Trident) on the port which ended in trotter doing turns
and turnbull not looking to happy standing on his centreboard!
handing boatman a good lead that was never challenged.
Race three was a tight fight between trotter and boatman
with boatman taking the lead on the last beat to win
from trotter.
Boatman lead start to finish to take the forth race
and overall with a race to spare from trotter in 2nd.
Turnbull won the 5th race and just piped paul davis
in to 3rd.
Results.
