Musto Skiffs at Rutland
- 19th & 20th March
13 Skiffs travelled to Rutland for the
first open of the season - as the number suggests we
got off to an unlucky start, with the racing being cancelled
due to lack of wind on the Saturday! This was not as
bad as it could have been as the Rugby was on providing
some of us with an excuse for an all day bender……
Sunday dawned with the justified bad head
and deli belly from the Saturday night curry! But with
winds of 8 to 10 knots racing was scheduled for a 10.30am
start with 4 races back to back.
In the first race Richard Stenhouse held
off a close challenge from Ian Trotter but as quite
often happens held on to record his first of 4 wins!
Race 2 saw Trotter again finishing second
closely followed by Graham Oliver and Kit Stenhouse.
Race 3 saw Richard’s biggest winning margin
of the day with Graham Oliver hanging on to second place
in a very competitive race.
The hangovers were really taking effect
by race 4 but Graham held his head to record his second
2nd of the day just pipping Kit Stenhouse on the finish
line thus giving him second place overall.
The standard of racing in the fleet has
come on in leaps and bounds over the past year with
every mistake being severely punished.
The competitors would like to thank the
members of Rutland Sailing Club for hosting a very enjoyable
day’s sailing.
The next event is the weekend of
9th & 10th April hosted by Helensburgh SC – Ian
Renilson promises it will be force 3 to 4 with glorious
sunshine so lets give the Scottish Skiff racing a boost!
