HISC MPS OPEN
Racing on Saturday was blown off
due to the gnarly waves out in the bay and a few strong
squalls.
The Skiffs had a practice sail in the harbour for the
Holt Tide Ride next weekend. Richard Stenhouse managed
to pitch pole upwind and end up standing knee deep in
water. Luckily no damage but he now knows where the
sand bar is, Looks like the Tide Ride will be good to
watch.
Sundays Racing was out in the bay. The early start caught
out a few sleepy sailors. We had five races with the
decider going down to the last race. Brian Greensmith
was in a strong postion with his mid series charge giving
him 2 bullets and looking for a third to discard an
eighth. This would win the open on count back number
of firsts. Ian Turnbull another contender having good
speed after a break doing 18ft Skiffs could also win
with a first in the last race. Richard Stenhouse was
a head by a whisker with a first and a string of seconds.
Richard lead at the start but was on the wrong side
of a left hand shift to let Brian in to the lead at
the top mark and Ian found pressure downwind to pull
through to second and Richard dropping out of contention
in forth behind Mark Addison. Ian was on a roll tacking
Brian on the beat and pulled clear to take first. We
though this was enough to win overall. Only to discover
in the first race Dave Poston had piped Ian on the line
for second place, after Ian and Brian had mistaken a
buoy on the wrong side of the committee boat for the
finish line. The blast down wind was to much fun to
drop the kite to finish anyway.
This meant Richard had won, Brian second and Ian dropped
to third on count back both had two firsts of Brian
had a second to Ian’s Third.
