Derwent Open - 8 & 9th
May 2004
A
good entry of 16 Skiffs arrived at Derwent and were
greeted with grey skies. The first race started in 12
to 15 knots with Martin Boatman leading the pack at
the first mark only to hit it which let Ian trotter
though to first. Who was in turn past by Kev Anderson
down the run. At the finish it was Anderson, Trotter
and Ian Turnbull third.
The second race battled right to the line with Richard
Stenhouse just passing Anderson on the last run with
Turnbull 3rd. Turnbull lead the third race for two laps
but a problem with his spinnaker dropped him out of
the top bunch. Again Anderson won from Stenhouse with
class chairman Graeme Oliver 3rd.
Sunday dawned with very little wind and that is how
it stayed but the race officer was determined to get
two races in. Trotter used his local knowledge in the
shifty light wind to take two bullets but this was only
enough to give him 5th overall after two retirements
on the Saturday.
Congratulations
to Sten who again finished on top of a very close event.
Thanks
to all those who organised and ran the event.
Next
event is Whitstable in 2 weeks time!!
