Denia
is a beautiful town which stands on the Mediterranean coast, between
the cities of Valencia and Alicante, where the sun shines 322
days a year and the average temperature is 18º C or 65º F. It
has a resident population of about 33,000, although this number
rises in the summer months, when people from around the world come
to visit this wonderful land. Coming by the A7 Highway, take exit
62.
Denia has 20 kilometres of beaches which are awarded the
European Blue Flag for their water quality, infrastructure and
services every year. To the north, the fine sand beaches of
Les Marines; to the south, the rocky area of Les Rotes, with its
spectacular coves of transparent waters. There´s a promenade along
Les Rotes wich takes about 45 min walking. From there you will see
the race area.
A
walking tour around Dénia will take you back to ancient times and
cultures. Iberian, Carthaginian,
Roman, Arab and Christian architecture
are symbols of the various civilisations which have peopled this
privileged corner of the world. One of the most emblematic sites of
historic Denia is the magnificent Castle which presides over
the town. From there you will descry the race area at birds eye
view. It´s 20 minutes walking from the sailing club
Denia’s calendar of cultural events and festivities is one of
the richest in Spain. Both visitors and locals enjoy the Carnival in
February, theFallas in March, Easter in April, Fogueres de
Sant Joan(Saint John’s beach bonfires) in June, our Patron’s
festivity in July, the famous Moors and Christians festival in
August… and more… Catching an event or two should be part of
everyone’s visit to Denia.
Denia
has always been a seafaring town. Its port, its daily fish market,
the fishermen’s quarter and, especially, its delicious cuisine,
bring us the flavours of the Mediterranean sea. Taste all kind of
rice dishes, which go beyond the famous paella, for
which Dénia is internationally well-known. Fresh seafood and fish,
vegetables, olive oil and fresh fruit count among the main
ingredients of one of the healthiest diets in the world. We have a
good restaurant at the sailing club, but don´t be shy and do not
hesitate to taste another ones.
The town can be reached by road, by train and even by boat!
Exit 62 of motorway A-7 and highway N-332 will lead you straight to
Dénia from Valencia or Alicante by car or public bus. The latter,
which is the capital city of the province, also has connection with
Dénia by train (Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat). You might even like
to spend a few days in the Balearic Islands (Mallorca, Menorca,
Ibiza and Formentera); well, you will not need to go too far, there
are daily boats departing from the Port of Dénia to Ibiza and
Formentera.
To give you an idea about the distances between Dénia and the main
towns and cities of the area, you should know that Dénia is only
100km away from the two capital cities ofValencia and Alicante,
only 58km away from Benidorm and around 3h 30min away (by
fast-ferry) from cosmopolitan Ibiza, beautiful Mallorca and
Menorca and pleasant Formentera.
Make the most of your leisure time and explore Denia’s
surroundings: enjoy a variety of activities such as hiking
itineraries to Cova Tallada, Cova del Camell, Cova de l’Aigua; tours
to Cape San Antonio or Cape of La Nao; excursions to Mount Montgó
Natural Park or to the Marine Reserve of Cape San Antonio.Maybe you
don´t have enough with racing. Don´t worry, there´s so much to do.
We have conditioned swimingpool, gymnasium and much more at the
sailing club. Hope you have happy days at Denia.
See you there!! |
