Number of races at the Worlds in Palma

Not sure if everyone has noticed the schedule of races for the Worlds in Palma:
http://www.mustoskiff.com/reports-and-news/2017/8th-worlds-palma/8th-worlds-palma.htm

The practice event is only 1 day. The actual Worlds is 5 days of racing + spare day. 5 days with 3 races a day = 15 races
Of course we hardly ever complete all 12 races at events anyway, so maybe if we plan for 15 then we will get 12?
Do you have 3 discards for 15 races? (or perhaps Dave Poston would like even more  ) I see the 49ers + Nacras have 15 races, but only 2 discards.
Perhaps 14 races is more feasible. e.g. only plan to have two races on the last day.

Following various discussions at Carnac it was decided to change the typical worlds schedule.

Usually we do:

2 days pre worlds then 4 days worlds (with lay days) - Total 16 races ....

the request was we do:

1 day pre worlds then 5 days worlds (with lay days)

So it is the same number of days sailing but we just have a bigger window for the worlds and so races shift out of the pre-worlds and into the worlds.

Given the weather never plays ball that gives us more scope for adjusting the schedule during the championships to get the best series in with what the weather allows.

The question is how many races we should target for the worlds ... perhaps 13 would be best with a split of 2,3,3,3,2 as the first and last days are usually short for travel.

We are currently writing the NoR for Palma so we can accommodate feedback.

Why the change? The balance between competition and vaccation seem to work well at Garda and Carnac.

That is what the committee voted for based on feedback from their regions ...

Isn't the whole week holiday?

Personally I like the new format. I don't see the point of a 2 day pre-worlds. I guess it is nice for the nations with a smaller population of Musto's to experience sailing against others and international visitors to adjust to sailing in the given climate before the big event kicks off.

I am with Bruce, a total of 14 races with two discharges. Last day two races.

14 races and 2 discards sound good to me. I like the idea of more worlds and less pre worlds!

14 races and 2 discards, in a venue that Justo (?) guaranteed would have solid breeze is going to have a big chunk of the fleet counting a DNC perhaps due to fatigue towards the end of the regatta.

Or perhaps everyone will spend next 10 months upping their fitness game

A total of 14+2 races are 16 so are the same than 12+4. The difference is more worlds and less pre worlds.
Wind conditions can be between 10-18, most usual 12-14. Sun and 25-30 C. If conditions are see breeze small waves (most usual) but if wind is from W can be with waves (no usual)

Factor in the differences between rest days though, you have a bigger run in the new format. I'm not against it the though of sunshine and breeze has me excited already and that little extra motivation when hitting the gym.
