I did the route via Austria last year,

- Ferry was £174 return, flexible ticket
- the tolls come to about 30-40 euro each way (if I recall correctly),
- avoids the Swiss tax
- Austria Vignette (Road tax) is 8.7Euro for car incl trailer up to 3.5Te for 10day validity.
(A certain Datchet sailor might need to weigh their boat  )

- Route is about 70miles longer
- How much more are you paying in fuel for the longer drive?
- Roads are fine although Belgium had some scary road works at 2am in torrential rain.
- Germany road works can be a nightmare with delays but we went through fine in the early hours both ways

Not sure which option I will take this time round.

There's some quite good mileage and toll calculator websites about that give you the latest costs.
