Do you know what the format of the event will be? I'm just looking at the dates/flights/accomodation etc, and whether I can take the family down with me (or whether I should)?

I've never been to Garda before or done an event overseas.....

I'd leave the family behind unless they are very self reliant; it's a busy regatta and if the wind dosn't play ball we may have races at odd times.

The guys who bring their families always seem to be stressing abit about keeping the familiy happy at the same time as enjoying the racing; but I guess that depends on your family, some seem to enjoy hanging around dinghy parks.

I believe the racing will be 31 Aug to 4th but the NOR will confirm this ...

Sorry for the late reply, but I disagree with Rick; I think that garda is one of the best places to take the family. It is a lovely place, with lots to do for the non sailors, and (in my experience) pretty reliably lovely weather.

So I for one will be there with the family..

Don't get me wrong ... it's a great place to visit; I guess it all depends on how understanding you family is with regards to you being around ... I have seen people really have a really good time with family and vice versa ...

I took Kit along the first time we had the Europeans there, she was going to spend the time biking but managed to borrow the demo MPS and raced instead. Kit thought it was so good she bought it

To Expand slightly on this, would you go Calais, Reims, Metz, Strasbourg, Zurich, Milan, Garda, using main roads or do you recommend as the crow flies?

I'm trying to work out how much it might cost in total to drive/tow to Garda and wether i can afford it. Do the Ferries get more expensive the later you leave it? Does anyone have a rough breakdown of what the costs might be?

In an Ideal world I'll be able to find someone with a double stacker to share costs with.
