Foil Polish Options

Hi Guys,

My foils need a bit of TLC, as there are a few chips and scrapes on them. So my plan is to fill the chips wit Epifill then sand back to fair this in.

The are also yellow, so I think need a bit of a polish. What do you guys think is the best type of polish, just a normal car wax, or something like Harken HullKote?

It is good to be happy enough on the boat where I think this matters - although, I may only polish the rudder, still need grip on centreboard :)

The yellow is UV and you are best to remove this with oxalic acid, which can be bought as a gel such as VSR. Alternatively, a 1000 grit compound will work using a buffing mop and then polishing afterwards.
Any polish will be fine, it doesn't really need to be a marine product.

Thanks Paul,

I put some Epifill on the chunks and sanded them back in fair a couple of times. Looks much better now, not perfect, but should allow me to get that extra 0.2 knots of boat speed to get my Speedpuck over 16, I hope, will see this weekend.

Once filling was done, I polished the rudder blade with some car polish, Meguires Cleaner Wax, applied with an electric buffer. It cleaned off the yellow UV oxidation and th rudder blade looks and feels so much smoother. Only drama is the blade drops down the stock as you trolley to the slipway, but that is easy fixed.
