Preferred Cunningham system

Hi,

Recently back into musto's and struggling manfully to remember stuff that I've not done for 11 years... seemingly including gybe, tack, remain upright on a standard beat etc....

That said my cunningham is annoying me a bit, it's a standard cascade 4:1 at the moment. There's no take up for the slack when it's 'on'. The excess just sits in the boat or drops in the water between the racks.
Question 1. Are we able to rig a take up system along the rack like the RS600 does? Is there a better system?

Secondly I've an old and a newish sail. I can't be bothered with moving the splice in the cascade every time I sail to suit the older shrunken sail as the result will probably be getting to an open meeting and not having sufficient cunningham available due to guessing the length or forgetting to shorten the strop. (Granted with the capsizing and general incompetence an open meeting seems a long way off at the moment). I'm thinking of switching to a straight up 4:1 each side shown in the pimp my skiff section to solve the problem of variable strop lengths.
Question 2. Roughly How many in the fleet use the 4:1 no cascade system shown in the pimp my skiff section? I guess this will use much more rope to deliver the extra range I'm after and therefore even more requirement for a take up of some sort...?

Paul

EDIT - I See the take up system in the pimp my skiff section.... looks sensible, I'll try that. But the second question still remains, who does what with their cunninghams.

Everyone uses 8:1 like this. http://www.mustoskiff.com/pimp-my-skiff ... am-8-1.htm

You need it.

There are a range of options on the take up.

OK,

I have that system.. Didn't figure out that twin 4:1 cascade probably meant 8:1...

So nobody is using this anymore? http://www.mustoskiff.com/pimp-my-skiff/cunningham-8-1-dc.htm

No I don’t think so ... it’s not as good a solution and more expensive.

Just tie a small rope loop to the webbing on your shrunken sail to make up any difference
