Spinlock Rigsense rig tension

I've just started using the new spinlock rigsense' rig tension gauge https://www.ovingtonboats.com/index.php ... gauge.html

They provide a conversion table:
https://www.spinlock.co.uk/uploads/file ... 1438163581

On 3mm wire it states that loos 30 should be 220kg however, for example I tensioned the rig and the spinlock rigsense read: 170kg and then I used a standard loos gauge as I've used for a long time, and it states loos 31. My shrouds are 3mm bought new from Ovington last yeas so I don't think it's a diameter issue.

Has anyone used the spinlock rigsense, any ideas why the conversion table and reality don't seem to match?!

Not heard of anyone using this product, have you contacted Spinlock :?:

Please also note that Loos guages all read a different number as there is no way to calibrate them, so your Loos guages may simply no match what the Spnlock guage reads.

Their reply "The Loos PT1 spring wears out over time due to being under tension all the time, this makes the Loos gauge over read, We’ve designed the gauge with 2 main aims; Consistency and Repeatability."

Well no-one ever said a competitor product is better ...

You need to calibrate your gauge against another one on a boat; best done at an open to get a calibration.

I have used a Loos gauge and a Harken Rig Sense (which is the best) and I never saw any issue with the Loos gauge giving a consistent reading.

So i think the key take aways are don't use the lookup chart to try and convert Loos to Kg. Either use a Loos Gauge or the RigSense each being a consistent way of tracking rig tension... To think i bought the rigsense simply because Ovi's sold them :) But in fairness it does seem a very well made product.

I borrowed a loos gauge to initially set my boat up to the numbers on the tuning guide, and now know what that equates to on my rig sense in kilos so have jotted the numbers down... Time to go sailing..!
