Posted: Fri Mar 03, 2017 2:05 pm
We are pleased to announce we have booked Musto Skiff sailor and highly experienced coach Russ Clark (GBR) to provide coaching in the build up to the 2017 World Championships in Palma.
This coaching will be aimed to support all sailors, from the first timers at a world championship to those who wish to pick up some coaching tips to refine their performance.
If you wish to participate in the coaching programme you need to:
1) Enter the event
2) Put your name down on the forum (in the coaching area to give an idea of numbers) with name, nationality and what you'd like to discuss.
There is no charge to participate in the training as this is covered by event sponsor ACO.
The objective is the help sailors develop the skills and understanding to help them cope better in a big fleet environment and be as prepared as possible for the event.
The coaching will run the on Friday 26 and Saturday 27 May including during the pre-worlds racing. Coaching will be shore based in the morning, with a sailing session planned in the afternoon with a full debrief after sailing. During Saturday’s pre-worlds and during the racing Russ will be providing on-the-water coaching. As it is the pre-worlds, coaching will be provided during the races the SIs will be amended accordingly (rule 41 will not apply); this of course will not apply during the worlds.
The training will cover:
On the shore:
- Consistent boat set up
- Personal preparation
- Regatta management, avoiding disasters!
- Sailing instructions and flags
- Key timings
On the water (sessions to be defined as conditions permit)
- Pre-race preparation
- Surviving big start lines
- Boat handling with (more) confidence
- Mark roundings
- Lay lines
The training will start daily at 0930 at the yacht club and finish when the questions dry up! A more detailed programme of shore based sessions will be published nearer the time so sailors can pick and chose which they wish to join in with.
