to supplement our class Trainings, would it be worthwhile considering this waterproof walkie-talkie helmet?
That would make communication between Student and Trainer so much easier!

Since my previous post Technology has moved on and (waterproof) Bluetooth Headsets with microphone have become widely available at low cost (less than 20GBP). I guess saltwater is no good for them regardless, so the below only applies to sweet water or calm conditions at sea.

The following setup could make for amazing training effectiveness:
-teacher with mobile and Headset on either rib or another Skiff
-students with mobiles (it is wise to use an old phone!) in waterproof sleeves in the mast pocket strapped securely and Headsets
-the teacher dials all students into a conference call (Limit something like 5 People). People have flatrates these days, so no Problem there)
-These Headsets have noise cancelling tech so the Background noise might be bearable (if not you could Limit yourself to 1:1 calls)
-Batteries need to be fully charged when leaving shore...

Comments?
Anybody keen to try this in reality?

Iver

Looks interesting...

Pretty sure the RYA have tried / use something similar for coaching.

Sounds good! What about a test during wittensee fight? We could try different manufacturers. I would be willing to get one for testing. There's only one hitch: to coach you need to go slower than the rest of the fleet, iver ;-)

i have a set of the jaybirds similar to those headphones pictured above; they work very well and are water resistant. All i would say about a double ear piece does isolate quite alot of external noise and you'll be surprised about how much you rely on sound as a sense when you are sailing; you might want to look for something that has a single ear piece.

perhaps try go sailing with some ear plugs and see :) at least you have an excuse when you miss a starboard tacker hail!
