Rig tips for extreme lightweight

Hi.
Am new to Mustos. I am an extreme lightweight.
Have just set my shroud tension to approx. 31-32. Lowers at about 8.
A bit confused on how these work, why there is a need to adjust lowers every sail, really wanting to depower but worry about losing pointing, ability to tack etc.
Haven't adjusted spreaders yet, Looking at that next weekend.

Thanks. Kial

Hi Kial,

How light are you? I'm about 70kg and sail on the following:

Shrouds 29
Lowers 10-12
Rake 7220mm
Deflection 110mm

I tweak the lowers slightly depending on conditions but would start on 10 and leave it while you get used to the boat. I don't think it is worth going lower as the mast is very stiff low down so it probably would'nt make much difference anyway.

Hope that helps

Cheers

Hi, thanks for the reply.
I am a measly 57kg.
With my current setup to get 10 on lowers it seems they would be under a lot of tension.
I take it more tension generally is better for lightweights? Still trying to understand the science behind it all.

Thanks, Kial

Generally less lower tension for small people as it allows the mast to bend and de-power the sail.

Here are a range of rig settings used by top sailors:

Thanks Rick.
Have been looking at those thanks.
Less lowers tension, will try that out. But more tension on shrouds?

Thanks

Hi Kial,

Given your weight I would start off with around 28 on the shrouds and 8 on the lowers. See how you get on with that initially and then add a bit of tension if you feel you need it.

Cheers

Mike

Was thinking of going straight for 30 on shrouds and around 8 on lowers, or is that far too much tension even for my weight?

Cheers

I know what you're saying, just he's a lot heavier than me and runs at 29 shrouds, so surely I should at very least match that, if not go for more?
Already feeling like technique is more important though, which is a shame as haven't got that either :)

A little less tension will allow the rig to flex more and so de-power ...
