(GoPro) Mounting positions

Father christmas brought me a GoPro camera this year.

I have seen a lot of really good footage on youtube and wonder where and how (additional mounts, tape, poles etc) the cameras where fitted.

It would be great if you could share your most popular positions here

I have a flat mount on the deck behind the kite chute. It needs to be tucked in as far under the chute and sock as you dare but gives a great view of you on both tacks and the horizon to tell you when your not flat. I also tried the suction cup mount, but it sits up too high and snags the kite sheets.

I still think duchonic has some of the better videos and diverse angles. Take a look at some of his stuff on youtube

PS Rick - I can't embed video in this forum?

I got the same gift from Ded Moroz (Russian Santa Claus) - Go Pro HD Hero (naked). And I am also very interested to know the best locations and methods of lashing/securing from the transom (back side) - to get the view from behind and to see all my movements in the boat. It would be great to hear the advices.

Yaroslav

Another lucky boy :!:

In previous years, before GoPro, we tied a tube to the back of the wing, so it stuck out around 1.5m backwards. This gave a good rear view.

Hello,
You can mount it on a stick at the end of the boom, like on this one:

I'm currently building a new stick (from a broken carbon tiller extension), will take some pictures to show the system.

Emilien, nice - waiting for pictures. By the way, what is the distance between the camera and the end of boom (how far the camera is located from the end of the boom) ?

i found that directly forward of the foot loops was good, although only for 1 tack!

Initially about 40cm, next one will be close to one meter.

I use the Fly Mount (http://www.flymount.com/features.html) and attach directly to the top of the mast or onto an old Laser tiller which is tied onto the end of the rack for this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hc5ESnrmTCo
I use a different camera, which has a narrower field of vision than the GoPro, hence only seeing my feet on Starboard tack. I believe the Fly Mount also works with the GoPro cameras.

Father christmas -> i thought is was a girl...

I have only one advise for you and i hope i'm not to late...
...It's about the package of the camera, if you buy the camera
it is mounted on a square plastic thing. I hope you haven't throu
away this little masterpiece! Use this piece together with
"ducktape, silvertape or wathever" and you can mount the camera
weherever (Boat, Racks, Sails) you want!

Have fun!

Thanks Nick for the excellent insider tip!
Luckily I am a German white-bread and have kept the packaging...
