YES you can bush the ganty but only with the standard mps bush I would guess. I hope they bring out a small bush for the ganty later on, or allow you to modify the bush if you wish.
Very happy with my MPS as it is, I have only a bit of movement so will just keep putting grease on the pin, if it had gone two far I would use a file untill I got a perfect fit as the drill will move too much unless in a vice in a tool shop. I will use the MPS bush in a few years.
Thanks for the quick reply
Chris

Yes you can :D

The class rules are actually really straight forward. We use the standard ISAF closed class rules format.
This basically means that in any case if you want to do something, check the rules and if it says you can then you can. If it does not say you can then you cannot.
Added to this, if the builder supplied spec. had changed then you may also update to this spec.

As examples

Can I use elastic as a rope tidy? Yes, as the rules say you can.
Can I replace the Harken blocks with Ronstan blocks? Yes, as the rules say you can, but they must be of more or less the same diameter.
Can I replace the Harken cleat for the spinnaker halyard with a Spinlock cleat? No, because it is not fundamentally of the same design.

If you ever have any rules questions, please ask. Some of the classes rules committee will be at the Olympics as technical staff, so we'd hope we can help :D

I have a bit of play developing in my stock so I ordered a couple of bushes that i got directed to on a link from here. I think they were on the Ovi site under the 49er.

Before I fit them are these the right ones? http://www.ovingtonboats.com/products/406 (found from this link http://www.mustoskiff.com/sub-pages/rudder-bush.htm)

I have a 12mm bit to drill out the stock, but do you go all the way through each side. I found something that said the bushing flanges should both face each other when in the stock and as the top part of the stock is much deeper than the bush I didn't want to drill away more than I needed to.

Cheers
Mark

Dear Dangerboy,
I think you could probably get away with drilling right through, although I didn't as it didn't seem like good engineering.

As with all theses things think twice, cut once.

good luck

Dan

Hi,

I bushed my Gantry yesterday using a 29/ 64 drill bit and a hand held drill. I took the gantry off the boat although its not a good shape to put in a vice.

The 29/64 (11.5) drill is plenty big enough, and there is enough meat in the gantry, I also used epoxy glue so it seems to be a good outcome, there had been a huge amount of slop in it before.

In the end it was an easy job took about 20 minutes

Hi There,

Wish I'd found this topic BEFORE getting the stock under the drill!

Drilled from both sides using a 12mm bit - all good on the alignment, but 12mm is defo too much, far from a tight fit.

Furthermore on the top section I drilled all the way through (from the top, as not enough clearance from 'inside') which is where I have the biggest issue - when fitting the pin, the 12mm hole at the top is too wide to hold it in place so it simply slides down to the end of the bush (and actually pulled the bush out towards the end of the first sail), not pretty. I guess I'll need to use a washer on top to resolve this.

What seemed like a fairly simple task has turned into a bit of a mess (I was on a mission to get a number of mods done at once, all others went fine!) - to save others from this, it may be worthwhile linking this discussion topic onto here? http://www.mustoskiff.com/sub-pages/rudder-bush.htm

Cheers,

Stew

Stew

I am sorry for the problem here.

I have asked for the instruction page to be altered to read 11.5mm.

Drop me a line if you need some help and I'll see what we can do.

I have updated the page and linked it back to this topic ...

Check the bush size before drilling anything. I used a 7/16 11.11mm drill bit and it was the perfect fit.
