kite system rigging

Hopefully someone can advise...

I picked up a musto last week and with a Saturday morning going spare, decided to strip everything off it, give it a good clean and re-rig everything, totally forgetting to note how the pole/kite system was rigged!

Can anyone advise how the pole outhaul/pole tensioning rope are rigged. I know the 29'er system uses a double block, but I dont seem to have one of those left over!? I'd guess the pole outhaul goes through the block tied to the aft mast support, and to a block which the halyard runs through from the mast, but how is the pole tensioned on the aft support?

Or, if anyone can suggest where I could get a photo of the rope arrangement below the kite sock that would be great?

Cheers

Oli

Cheers for the reply Rick, but I fear I must be blind as I still can't see how the pole is rigged!!??

On the aft pole support there is an eyelet either side of the pole - presumably I need a piece of rope with a stopper knot one side, but I can't remember how the other side is rigged and where the rope is led to, or how it is tensioned to stop the pole moving about when the kite is up?

If I am blind, can you let me know which page this info is on?

Cheers

Oli

Final question I promise!

I still can't work out what the pole tension line ties to on the port side. The stopper knot is on the starboard side, and the line runs over the pole, through the eyelet, and to???

Should've taken photos before stripping everything off...!

Cheers

It's just a bit of string between the 2 eyes to hold the pole on the deck molding when extended ... stopper knot each side ...

The launch block for the pole is tied to the starboard eye as shown here:

http://www.mustoskiff.com/pimp-my-skiff/pole-wear.htm

In these photos you can't quite see the knot on the port eye as it is slightly pulled back by the elastic take up for the mainsheet because the pole is out of the way...

It really is very simple, just reassemble it and see ... if it dosn't seem to work take photos and post them and we can point out any issues.

Where are you sailing are there any other Mustos to look at?

I am wondering what you are calling the "pole tension" line.

There is the ...

Tack line: this ties to the tack of the sail runs through the pole and ties to the mast step

Launch line: this ties to the aft end of the pole and goes through the block fixed to the starboard eye on the aft pole support

Halyard: This comes out of the mast through the block on the end of the launch lines and back to the cleat.

Retaining line: This is the short bit of string that goes between the two eyes each side of the aft moulding shown here: http://www.mustoskiff.com/images/pimp-m ... e-wear.jpg

Got it!... Cheers Rick.

I was tying to make it more complicated - I assumed the retaining line would be linked to the kite system like on 9'ers where it is pulled tight as the kite is launched, and slackens off when dropped to allow the pole to easily slide back in. You know what they say about assumption...

Should be striaght forward to sort now - does it matter how tight the retaining line is?

No other Musto's to compare with I'm affraid - I bought the boat on a bit of a whim really and didn't think it through properly, as they are too fast for the 900+ PY limit on the pond I sail on... I'm based in Derby, so will probably drag it up to Carsington Res occasionally, and will also do some handicap events and maybe opens depending on work and other sailing commitments etc.

Cheers

Just make it short enough that the pole "snuggs" into position ...
