C.8.4 (a) (2) Daggerboard

Postby paul manning » Thu Aug 29, 2013 10:25 am

C.8.4 DAGGERBOARD (a) USE
(2) The supplied hull lining material may be replaced by not more than one layer of webbing, not more than 25mm width.

If you stuck the webbing down and used the glue to fare the edge into the hull, would this be permitted?

I can't see that would be allowed; the rule states you can replace the standard packing with webbing but faring the hull to the daggerboard would be an additional modification that is not specifically permitted by the rules so I would expect the equipment inspector would take a dim view of that.

C.8.1 MODIFICATIONS, MAINTENANCE AND REPAIR
(e) The supplied rudder stock lining material may be replaced by not more
than one layer of webbing, not more than 25mm width.

I noticed the new rudder boxes came supplied with a different lining than the polar bear pubes.
Is this some special type of material?
Are we now allowed to replace the Centreboard and Rudder linings with an EVA Foam not more than 25mm width?
Is there a thickness that Ovi uses?

to be fair the eva foam isn't any where as near as good at the polar bear pubes were. I'm not convinced by the switch at all - i lights airs, typically when there isn't much pressure on the rudder blade then mine drifts up and the foam is only 3 or 4 months old

I was hoping that the material type would be unrestricted. There are no more Polar Bear Pubes left in Aust and I am looking at replacing my lining before the worlds.
Seems a bit odd that Ovi can use whatever they like.

The eva foam is not working at all.
I had to change the foam twice and my rudder would still pop up as Mark said. Finally I followed Dave and gave up and replaced it with the polar bear stuff that fixed the problem.

Hi All,

The foam is being used in many other classes with no issue, it seems another quirk of the Musto that it does not work with this boat...

The good news is we have managed to track down some more Polar Bear Pubes and it should be arriving any day (from the USA)...

We will immediately switch back to the pubes and continue to do so whilst we are able to get it.

Don't know if I'm looking into this to far or have missed something. If I was to replace the rudder (centreboard) lining it would have to be replaced by not more than one layer of webbing, not more than 25mm width.
Does this mean I can't replace with the same material (ie: Polar Bear Pubes)? This means I have to use webbing.

Can I now replace the lining with EVA foam. As boats have been supplied with this.
Is there any other material that has been used when supplied by Ovi that I can use.

I wish I could get my hands on some Polar Bear Pubes in Aust.
Does anyone have the 3M code for the Polar Bear Pubes. The Google search I do on them does not come up with anything like what is in my lining.
Don't really want to spend heaps on freight for something that should be relatively cheap to replace and available at any good hardware shop.

I have read other threads on this matter from back in 2008 and know this was discussed and the rule is in place for a reason.

Would just like to know what I can use so I am not changing day 1 at the worlds. It's not as if I'm going to be up the front. I will be battling out for last place if I can finish a race. Can't afford to get foils laser aligned and all that other stuff. Just want the centreboard and rudder to stay at the right height. I currently have to tie them in to stop them falling out.

Cheers

The class rules define what can be replaced from the standard supplied.

I'd need Chris to confirm but my thought would be that either the foam or the polar bear pubes would be acceptable along with webbing.
