Any skiffs in Stavanger?

Hello people of Norway.

I might be on my way to Stavanger to work for the next couple of years. It would be great to know about the potential of sailing my beloved musto skiff when I get there.
I'm keen to learn where I could sail, store and launch my boat if any one has any suggestions?

Cheers (Tusen Takk)

I only know of Norwegian Skiffs in Christiansand.

That is also what our google map is saying:

Geir will be able to tell for sure though.

Jamie, it's only just about 325 nm across the pond to your beloved East Lothian sailing club, just jump in the musto and sail down there for a weekend training. The added value would be that you also train on your way there and back too ;)

Hi there

I believe Iver is right, the only Mustos in Norway so far are in Christianssand (aka Kristiansand). So, you'll be a sensation in Stavanger, where the local club http://www.stavangerseilforening.no/ boasts about excellent facilities for dinghies, and has a large and active Snipe fleet in addition to other classes.

All the best,

Thanks Rolf.

I took a trip to Stavanger and while I was given a tour to look at houses, I made the woman stop at every potential sailing club I could find. I found the one you mention and launching looked difficult at best. It was a narrow wooden ramp like the photo in your more recent post, but with obstacles either side. So OK for a 90 deg wind range :?

Also, would I have to pay huge taxes to bring my boat over? I heard it might be 105% of the value?

On another note.... I see there is the Eurocup event at Kristiansand at the end of August. Could you please let me know if there are any boats available for charter?

Thanks for any help you can give me - very much appreciated.

Hi Jamie

Upon immigration you will, as you suspect, encounter His Majesty's loyal customs and excise, whose pursuit of the goal of generating inland revenue is excessively zealous according to many, myself included :) The rumour of 105% import tax is to my knowledge exaggerated, however.

Most imported goods are subject to 25% MOMS (i.e. VAT), even if VAT is already paid in Britain or another country, EU or not.

If you import a car, there are additional taxes to be paid unless you are a tourist or a temporary resident. Consult http://www.toll.no/default.aspx?id=3&epslanguage=en for the gory details.

A foreign Musto Skiff being brought into the country for the purpose of racing will be exempt from VAT, I should think also if two subsequent regattas are envisaged, and by extension ... you see where I'm going. There is a gray zone here.

Heads up if your skiff sits on a roadgoing trailer, because UK and N trailer regulations probably differ. Even light trailers have their own number plates and vehicle documentation papers here, you cannot use a copy of your car number plates. You may have to contact the Norwegian Public Roads Administration about vehicle approval for your trailer: http://www.vegvesen.no/en/Vehicles/Buy+ ... e+approval

MPS 094 and 126 were available for charter in last year's Norwegian Eurocup, and I expect these two boats will be made available again this year. In fact 094 is for sale. Talk to <Geir Odmar> in this forum about 094 and <MPSNor462> about 126.

Best wishes

Rolf

I'll give you a euro for your boat.

Now you have a market value to pay tax on.

Or I have a new boat. So also win.

The weekend May 25 to 26, you can come to Kristiansand, borrow a boat (096) and join to sail. You can sleep in my house.
