Ciao Italian Skiff Sailors,

I would very much like to do some sailing in Italy and was thinking about attending the Euro Cup race in Dongo, Lake Como on 14 June 2014.

Do you know if there is anyone that I could borrow a boat from for this regatta?

Yes, I am from New Zealand.

I have spent the last 10 years sailing a Farr 3.7 - 3.7 metre long single handed trapeze boat with just a mainsail. I purchased a Musto Performance Skiff, NZL 210, in October last year, and have been out sailing most weekends learning how to keep it flat and use the kite.

I have been to Italy a number of times and ever since I started sailing Tornado Cats in 1995, it has been my dream to sail on the Lakes in Italy. (The 1994 Tornado Calendar had a picture of the Tornados sailing on Lago Di Garda, and it looked fantastic.) I have been up to Italy a few times and been to up to Lake Como, Lado di Iseo, (to visit the Ullman Zuccoli Loft, where our Tornado sails were made.), and up to Torbole and Riva del Garda to see what sailing would be like up there.

The company I work for does all it's manufacturing in Nova Milanese, and we usually stay in Monza when working at the factory. I have 2 or 3 trips planed to our Italian office this year, and thought that I could stay a few days longer and head up to Como to sail in this leg of the Euro Cup, but obviously I would not be able to bring my boat over for this, but I could bring my spinaker over easily enough.

Cordiali Saluti,

Aaron Duncan

Hey Aaron

Very nice idea. There are some boats at the club. Edoardo87 is or was a active Mustosailor from Dongo, ask him first. An there is michele.monzini@gmail.com, he is the organizer of the event, maybe he can help. Otherwise i can ask the swiss fleet if we have a spare boat!

Personnaly i love Dongo/lago di como, see the contenter worlds from last year and you know why

(ignore the comment about "the most beautiful boat in the world..."...)

See you in Dongo!

Today I sent an e-mail to Michele to see if he know of any spare boats, thanks for the contact.

I am heading off to Italy on Monday, for 3 weeks working in Monza at our factory. If I get a Sunday off I might do a road trip to Dongo and check out the yacht club, although it is probably a bit cold up there for sailing this time of year.

Ciao :)

Hi Aaron,

have a good trip, the Dongo club is a great set-up, friendly atmosphere even a toolshed/man cave for general use :-)
If you can fit your trips around the Eurocup circuit I'm sure as Nic says we can find you a boat. For the weekend of the Dongo regatta many of team Swiss come for an extra day or two to practice and generally enjoy the conditions, would be great to have you join us.

Keep us posted and hope we can meet-up and get you on the water this year.

Best,

John

Ciao Tutti,

I am back in Italy again, and had a day off so went to Lago di Iseo for a look around. i spun past the Ulman Zuccoli sail loft where I used to buy my Tornado sails from, then went around the side of the lake to see if I could find a dingy sailing club - and I came across Associazione Nautica Sebina.

I found a couple of guys who has just come in from sailing their Musto Skiffs, flash new boats 8) I had a chat to them and a quick look over the boat to see what new cool things I could photograph so that I can go home and "pimp my skiff" a bit more. The mega plastic zip on the cover instead of the velcro rocks! I will be adding this when I get back as my velcro is knackered. Looked like an awesome day to sail, not much wind, but nice flat water - wish I had my wetsuit here now ;)
