What is the reason for the entry entry fee closing so early? We have only got back from the worlds for 2 weeks and are now in a position where we have to pay the entry in the same month as spending best part of £1000 going to the worlds. Moving the early entry fee to next month would be very helpful

The early entry closing date was selected to encourage people to enter and give Largo Bay an idea of numbers. We've had problems in the past where clubs (including Paignton) get increasingly nervous when 4 weeks out from the event there are only a handful of entries and they have to plan for catering / volunteers etc. That's why we decided to set the date at 7 weeks out - appreciate with hindsight that it is too close to Carnac but we can't move that date now it's been agreed with the club. We'll certainly bear it in mind when selecting future dates. Rick is going to hold the early entry discount open until the end of the day.

To make the point on Monday we had 4 entries, we now have 40 so the date is having the desired effect. You could have entered back in April when the link went live?

If you need to spread the cost why didn't you enter in Jan, Feb, Mar, April etc etc ...

We've currently got 40 entries, which already matches last years turnout. It is entirely possible that our class will have the biggest championships in Scotland this year and potentially be one of the larger trapeze class nationals full stop.
There's always going to be points of debate, but the Scottish guys and the club have put in a big shift to make this event happen and be a success!
As you all may be aware, we have a policy of rotating the UK nationals around to ensure we get as much geographical spread as possible, in that way we can all support each other's fleets.

I've been following the forum occasional since I left the class and had thought about borrowing a boat for this year's nat s but unfotunately I will be approx 15 miles south east of Largo at north Berwick helping with the topper nationals.
Dan one reason I think the club needed numbers early is with 200 junior sailors at ELYC and a large your week at dalgety bay then the club needed numbers for safety cover. The last time the nats were in Scotland I spent quite a bit of time chasing up sailors to see if they were coming as the large entry fee was not much more

The organisers of the opi nats the week before are currently having issues because they have had a late closing date for entries and people are keeping there dash in there wallets as long as possible.
I hope to come across for a day to watch the sailing as its a great venue

Anyone who has ever planned an event knows the most critical bit of information needed is, how many are coming.

Delaying payment does not reduce it, people just need to plan ahead to help the organisers.

I have just guaranteed fine weather for the nationals by spending £100 getting the seals fixed on my drysuit ...
