Anyone up for a challenge?

The East Coast Piers race is a 27 mile race on the river Blackwater and we're invited!

They seem pretty hot on rescue/safety and the navigation is simple enough to be able to cope from a musto. Just a matter of surviving 3-6 hours of continuous sailing...

See the email from them below.

Hi Dave,

I am part of the race committee for the East Coast Piers and Colne Point Races which this year will be held at Marconi Sailing Club on the estuary of the river Blackwater on 27th & 28th June.

I want to let you know that the Colne Point Race is open to fast dinghies and I am sure that that your fleet members will find the prospect of a long distance race, mixing it with all other dinghy’s (PY 975 or faster) and catamarans fleets, exciting, challenging and rewarding.

Charity Support
The Race is a charity event supporting sailing related charities; the Cirdan Sailing Trust and Essex Air Ambulance. Over the years we have raised upwards of £200,000 for charity.

Entry fee
Entry fee for the whole weekend is £45 per boat a fee that includes free camping on site on Friday 26th, Saturday 27th and Sunday 28th June. Let’s not forget the live music and Adams sponsored beer in the bar on the Saturday night!

Competitor safety
As well as being a charity event another unique quality of the Race is our system of “mother boats”, cruisers moored at one mile intervals along the race course. These report progress and possible difficulties to Race Control who then vector fast RIB support where needed. Mother boats are also permitted to give aid to competitors without penalty. All combined results in an extremely well supported and safe race for all competitors.

More information
The race is now in its 27th year; the course is a long distance course of some 27 miles beginning just off the Club and going to a turning mark at the mouth of the Colne via a gate at Bradwell. For more info, Entry Form, and Notice of Race please visit eastcoastpiersrace.com.

I hope I have roused your interest and would be delighted to welcome all Musto Skiff’s on Race Weekend. I would be grateful if you could promote the event within your fleet, informing any sailor’s local to the race (or letting me know contact details so I can contact) and adding to your sailing event schedule for 2015.

If you have any questions whatsoever or require any further details please let me know.

Kind regards,

Tom Brooks

Just to be clear, our class would be racing for the Colne Point Trophy, which isn't the full distance

Hi All

Pending the weather forecast at the end of the week, I'm thinking of being brave [and/or stupid] enough to give this a go.

Is anybody else thinking of going?

Cheers

I did toy with it Dave, but the thought of going out to buy flares and a paddle put me off this year. Always wanted to do it though!
