Hi All,

We have asked for some MPS Training Focus days to be put in the 2014 calender at Rutland SC so we can try and get some fleet training going. Skiffs from other clubs are welcome too. Details of day sailing at Rutland SC can be found here: http://rutlandsc.co.uk/cms/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=92&Itemid=98

The dates are:

9 March
6 April
18 May
29 June
10 August
5 October.
23 Nov

I suggest we aim to meet up at 10am with the boats rigged and do a morning and afternoon session. We can decide when we meet what exercises/ areas we want to work on.

Cheers

Nick

Hi Nick,
That is fantastic news for us in the Midlands, thank you for your effort to help support the fleet at Rutland and the Midland, I will volunteer to do the results if we do the races or practice/ practice fun races on the day or whatever the days bring. As for the dates for myself I will commit as follows.

9 March yes
6 April yes
18 May no . Carsington solo open in my new Solo on order at home sailing club sorry
29 June YES was coming to do the Laser 1 OPEN at Rutland , but will be MPS day now
10 August YES
5 October. YES was going to the Laser1 at Stunton Harold but now MPS at Rurland
23 Nov yes

The link shown for the MPS is the single handed £15 one day or £27.5 for the weekend.
The normal format at Rutland for club W/L racing is two races B&B AT 11AM then Two races at 1330 B&B until 1600 ish, just join in?
The above dates are not organised or official but just for fun for the MPS fleet, ie no prizes each day unless we bring our own?

I am interested in doing some Saturdays before but lets just focus on the Sundays for now. Great news and some social Sundays on the cards now :D

For the years to come or this year any other club doing the same could be included in the Midlands results Saturday or Sunday, dates not clashing with the above or MPS opens, Draycote? grafham? oxford?

Thanks Paul,
These dates should be good for people that work most Saturdays or only have one day off per weekend looking for a fun and Social Sunday sailing, not sure if all the boats will race, a few may decide that they might three boat train in the morning and race in the afternoon? its an unplanned day with club racing available.
The Laser1 Focus days at Rutland ended up half the club fleet racing with lots of boats out for one day a month and worked very well.

The Focus day at Rutland was a big success with the help of the Rutland team helping making the day go smoothly.

With five people on the start line for the first club race, Kit asked if we wanted some quick fire short w/l course and start practice instead, this was a better option for us so the club racing was left to later in the day and Kit went into multitasking mode, she is now starting to master putting a whistle in her mouth as part of her starting procedure as well as getting good starts herself.

Kit did some talking to the committee boat and just like magic we had three people in a rib and two floating start mark within five minutes, we had about seven quick starts with a one lap race each time with Kit giving advice and help throughout the morning, the last start ended in a long race to the dam in a perfect force 3 wind at temperature about 15 deg c in sunshine and in mid March?

In the afternoon Sten came out with us, Kit was with the young Oliver who made a great wigwam on shore and played with toy earth excavator. We did the first club race as that was requested buy most of us but it ended in the normal 100m gaps with little learned but great to be on the water at Rutland, Sten won by chance, two legs in front again pure chance that.

After the Club Race we did two hours of five boat training with Sten, we did Starting acceleration from still to full power, we did up and downwind wind boat handling and up wind lane holding in format. We did boat handling downwind including sailing slowly with only the main, that was hard and ended with a few swims.

The day was great and a very good start to the focus series at Rutland, it just goes to show how someone years ago started the focus format at Rutland in some committee meeting and helped the fleets like the laser1 and now the MPS fleet as well, great idea.

Thanks to the people on the rib, Kit and Sten for the informal help again, Nick and Rutland sailing club for their hospitality, sorry I missed Tim who went for a sail later in the day by himself as was not well in the morning with a headache, the total boats on the water were seven I think. Just myself as visitor at £15 day sailing membership, well worth the effort for the social sailing and conditions at Rutland.

Hi All,

Apologies for my late cancellation on Sunday. Flat tyre caused all sorts of dramas on the way home sat and needed to repair it for first thing Monday morning due to work commitments

Bummer as I was looking forward to it to properly dust off the cobwebs over winter

Did manage to get out for a burn after some boat work on Saturday so looking forward to the Stokes bay open this weekend.

See you there if you are going, otherwise see you at the next one.

Regards,

Justin

Thanks Tim,
Fantastic pictures again, great to look at and make a great record of events to look back on as well,
just shows what what some of us missed Sunday, life is unfair as you can only be in one place at a time, looking at the pictures I think I may have been in the wrong place Sunday :?
Thanks again hope to be on the next lot.

A better wind than forecast was the order of the day for the three mps sailors at Rutland this Sunday, a great start to the day but in the late afternoon the wind dropped to a force 2 and then the rain came in just before we put the boats away.
