Russ,

I'd like to attend but can only make the morning session so will understand if you'd rather allocate the space to someone who can make the whole day.

Thanks,

Ben

my boat is already there, don't know if Tania is coming, she is still not well, but if she is, Russ do you think you could get her on your rib so she could take photos?

Hi Russ and penny, I will have to miss out on the training this year, I think that missing this event is not a wise thing to do but I have problems at home and lots to do. I hope you could get some points down on the report so the people that miss this event can still pick up some points.
Thanks for doing the training for us again

Forecast at the moment is WSW 14-18kts, plenty of carbs required the night before....! (10-11 deg C too, almost tropical)
High water is at 1223 BST so easy launch and recovery.

Please be advised it is a cadets morning at the club so all boats are to be on the beach early to make the cadets life easier. Thanks

Hi Russ,
I've got a couple of topic areas:

I'd like to go through talks and gybes, with foot placement, when to change hands and the variations people have etc. Mine were especially flaky at the open! I've never get round to practicing shore drills, so would be very keen on this if it's bad weather (forecast looks like 12-14kts now though).

I'm also interested in improving my gate mark roundings - how to choose which mark, how to approach and tactics/rules with other boats etc. This seems to be a place to lose or gain big.

Cheers,
Ed

Thanks to Russ and Penny for a very professionally run training day.

The day started with 'Starting' discussion and a briefing on the exercises we would be going through on the water. The sailing started with a 'Warm up' comprising 5 x tacks, 5 x gybes and 2 x hoist/ drops - for those that weren't knackered we embarked on some old favourites including - Follow my Leader, Tacking on the Whistle - the far more challenging Gybing on the Whistle before going into a series of starts.

Dan Hare - new to the class and only had the boat a few weeks, impressed the older hands with his wire to wire tacking.

Steve Tylecote was a gybing inspiration to us all.

By the end of the session - everybody had had a moment of glory and probably a swim or two.

A debrief to wrap up - gave everyone something to go away and work on as we now start to prepare in earnest for the Nationals and Worlds.
