Bassenthwaite Sailing Club May 7/8 - 2011

I am writing to cordially invite all members of your Class Association to the inaugural, Great North Asymmetric Challenge.

This new event, which is open to all mono – hulls (and Laser Vortexes) carrying asymmetric spinnakers, will take place on 7th/8th May at Bassenthwaite SC in Cumbria.

The format will be 8 short races on windward/leeward courses. There will be one start for all classes and results will be calculated on handicap.

It is very much our intention to try and make this a major event which attracts a large, high quality entry. To this end we are currently talking with potential sponsors with a view to being able to offer some very attractive prizes. There will be fleet prizes for any class entering more than 6 boats.

The entry fee will be modest: £25 for doublehanders / £15 for singlehanders). This will include:

· Onsite camping on Friday and Saturday evenings

· Asymmetric tactics talk on Friday evening, by Steve Goacher

· Professionally catered meal (Seychelles, Caribbean Buffet) – Saturday evening

· Live entertainment – Saturday evening

· Cheap bar

Stories of Bass hospitality and Bass parties are, of course, legion and some sailors may find it quite a challenge to reach Sunday morning in peak condition!

In addition the venue is, by common consent, one of the most beautiful in the country.

I would be very grateful to you if you could help us to make the launch of the Great North Asymmetric Challenge successful by including the event in your calendar and publicising it on your Class Association website.

I will be sending you further information, with a flyer, when more details are confirmed. In the meantime, if you have any queries, or require any further information, please don’t hesitate to contact me:
