hoist the sail on water?

Dear all,

Can I hoist the sail of the Musto skiff on the water without being attached to something, e.g. a buoy?

I have to paddle about 50m and hoist the sail. Same procedure in revers order to go back.

Can I paddle the skiff without capsizing?

What are the limitations regarding wind speed for this procedures?
I assume there is no problem with 10 knts of wind.
However, I guess with 20 knts it might be impossible to hoist the sail on the water without capsizing.

The Musto skiff looks great but the answers to the questions above are very important for me for considering the boat.

Thanks in advance.

Hi, that's an interesting questin :D

Sailors do this sometimes, especially when coming ashore to a leeward shore. It's important to give yourself time to roll the sail, or at least lay it down so it can't blow away.

I believe some of the sailors on the European lakes may do something similar to launch and recover...

That said the boat is quite unstable so you would need to take care.
