What are the advantages of the (newer) window style Musto Skiff Spinnaker sock compared to the original spin sock that came with my MPS in 2007? Additionally, how long does the typical spin sock last?

Hi, the newer style was done really for aesthetically reasons.

Hard to say how long a sock lasts will depend on time exposed to the elements really.

That said I converted to a new one after about a year and found that recovery of the kite was a lot smoother. I put this down to two factors. First the old one I think was a little tighter. Secondly like having a new kite it holds less water and slides smoother.

The good advantage is that you can apply paint or vinyl stickers or combination of both on this window ! Apart from that, I did not notice any benefits or improvements ...
