Trailing two boats

Hi Everyone,

Has anybody trailed two boats using a single 275 road base before?

A few of us from Portsmouth are coming to the Worlds in Medemblik but we do not have double stackers. Is it possible to put two boats on top of each other for towing?
Obviously we would need to completely pad each boat out and properly secure them.

The Gross capacity of the 275 trailer is 400 Kgs so 2 boats will be well inside this limit so I do not see a weight problem.
Has anybody completed this before and if so, any techniques to secure them properly?

Many Thanks
Mark

Years ago I did this with two RS600s. Put the second upside down and tied the racks together. Towed them out to Garda without issue.

I guess the same could work for the Musto, as the racks on are within the towing width limit. However not sure the loading that you are going to be putting through the racks and then I turn the gunwhale support of the bottom boat, where it is on the trailer. The boat is obviously not designed for this.

So discalmour is it is possible. However you run the risk that your boat bends or the rack supports delaminates within the hull.

Better to obviously beg/borrow a double trailer. Look at a roof rack option (although this is limited on most cars by the max capacity).

Ps I am sure the official response would be don’t do it.

Thanks Paul.

I was intending to take the racks off the top boat, and keep the racks in place for the bottom boat.
Then use the racks as tie down points for the top boat. This should then reduce any leverage on the racks.
My biggest concern is the load force going through the bottom boats gunhales. So I intend to double up on padding.

I have asked around for a double stacker but no success yet. This doubling up method will be our last resort if we do not find one.

This sounds a like a good way to knacker your boat(s) ... how are you going to get the 2nd trolley on?

Also - if there was an accident on the road I fear you'd find insurance problems.

Beg, borrow or steal a proper double stacker.
