Grip on Musto

I have an old Musto. It has the grip on the wings which shreds hands and suit etc.
Is there a better alternative to this stuff?

Also what glue is used to stick down the grip on the hulls? What's best?

Thanks

You can either buy the original grip in a roll probably from Ovingtons or put progrip on the wings. If using progrip then it may come with the self adhesive backing which will be fine for the wings. On the hull as it is textured then you will need to use a suitable impact adhesive.

Take care adding a load of weight to the boat unnecessarily with progrip. It may for example be easier to get someone like Ovingtons to replace the grip on the hull deck as if done properly does not add much weight.

I have had boats bought in the past with progrip on them however I do not need this on a new boat as the deck grip is good.

Where can you get Progrip long enough to do the wings in a single length? All the UK chandlery stuff means you need 3 rolls and a join somewhere?

I never managed to find any long enough so just had the join at the front of each wing; you don't spend much time in that area so it was never a problem. I covered the join with PVC tape.

Well there is a difference I did not know between us pond boys and you wave sailors. My boat and I think other Datchet boats have their join at the back.

I am going to do this upgrade this season. Last year Tilman was kind enough to let me sail his MPS while I visiting Pieter in California. It was a dream being able to sail in shorts and not have the typical calf scars. I also found the padding to be really comfortable on my aging feet. :D

Thanks for the write-up Max! http://www.mustoskiff.com/pimp-my-skiff/pro-grip-your-wing-bars.htm
