2017: Musto top covers

Postby Infinite » Wed May 24, 2017 6:28 am

Can anyone comment on the current generation of Ovington top covers for the Musto? I am curious if the design has changed since the ~2013 redesign mentioned in this Top Covers thread? The Ovington website does not provide valuable photos or any details about the current cover.

I'm debating if I should purchase a 3rd cover which has to be mailed to the States or have a custom cover built locally. The zippers and ball and clip connections have all started to fail and I believe the material has shrunk as well.

Cheers,

Potentially this is way too late in response to the original post, but for what it is worth I can add that I took delivery of a new Ovington top cover for this season and found it to be far superior to the "no name" cover that the previous owner had passed on with the boat. The current Ovi design just has positive clips and no horrible ball & cord connections, thus is quicker to slip on & off. So far, in the hot dry sunshine that this summer has brought with it, there has been no noticeable shrinkage or fabric stiffening. In short, you get what you pay for and I don't have any issues with the current design & material. Great job. Although I must admit I've yet to see how well it holds up to being towed down the highway ...

I believe that this is the latest generation of MPS covers. In my opinion, it's similar to the 2007 covers in terms of design and fasteners but better materials.

Here is my attempt to describe the top cover:
The cover material is a breathable cotton similar to Sunbrella with a large Ovington logo over the stern deck. The bow opening is lined with velcro and has 5 webbing straps and clips, plus one clip at the bow to be secured under the bowsprit. The mast opening uses a black neoprene material which is tightened with a webbing clip. The wing and rigging holes in the sides of the cover are square and reinforced with webbing, a small length of webbing and clip secure them. 5 or 6 webbing straps with clips go under the boat to secure the cover to the skiff. The stern portion of the cover extends nicely beyond the base of the rudder bracket and completely cover the skiffs transom. The split for the rudder is reinforced with webbing, and clips under the rudder frame with a webbing strap. The skirt has a ~3mm drawstring that can be connected with ball stoppers and plastic hook clips at each gap. Lastly, there is a small bag for storing the cover attached to the underside of the material.
