Welcome to the latest issue of the MPS newsletter.
So, where has Graham Oliver gone and who is this newbie
that gets his 300 or so words published at the top of
the class newsletter? The simple answer is; I was the
person that turned up at Malcesine with a couple of
friends from Thorpe Bay to watch the Gold Cup racing,
have a demo sail and to go home with a suntan and an
order for a new boat. Two days after arriving back from
Italy, I was that same person and Paul Manning had asked
if I would like to take on the mantle of class chairman
from Graham Oliver now that I had bought my new boat.
What could I say? The deciding factor was not the boat,
a foregone conclusion thanks to the 6 others already
sailing back at home. The reason I said yes was because
I was made so welcome by everyone in the class. Within
10 minutes of arriving at Lake Garda we were off to
lunch with the Stens. When Kev, Bov, Martin and Kenny
had trouble in Metz with their trailer, Paul Manning
got back on the road with Tony Ainsworth to make sure
that they got to Italy. And all week, it did not matter
who you were, how quick you were or how long you had
sailed an MPS for, you were part of the class. Enough
from me for now, I look forward to meeting as many of
you as possible in the next year at MPS events around
the country. Finally, a shameless plug (if the editor
allows me) for the Frozen Sheets Trophy Race at Thorpe
Bay on December 27th, 12 noon start. 7 MPS already,
all are welcome and my last duty as Rear Commodore Racing
of TBYC.
See you on the water. Paul Clarke GBR 176 - It's Not
